We’ve been licking our lips in anticipation for The Sweet Release Of Death‘s debut LP ever since Cirt picked up on harrowing Sonic Youth-esque noise-rocker “Haze“. Panick-stricken insomnia episodes never sounded so wickedly blasé. It seems this Rotterdam-based trio has finally put the finishing touches on debut LP “Bulb” with none other than Corno Zwetsloot, our favorite necromancer of lo-fi rock , behind the panel.
The first track unveiled is aptly titled barn burner “Ghosts in Fur Coats“, where Alicia Breton Ferrer’s saccharine vocals weather a storm of violent cataclysmic outbursts. The Sweet Release of Death are undeniably kindred spirits to fellow Zwetslootians Space Siren, their gaunt instrumentation inflicting that same feral pillory. Plenty of eureka’s to go around here for fans of pre-grunge luminaries like Mudhoney, The Wedding Present and, of course, Sonic Youth.
The Sweet Release of Death will unleash “Bulb” at Roodkapje February 22nd, with Kleinindustrie, Cusack and a yet to be announced fourth party opening up. “Bulb” will be released on Zwetsloot’s label Katzwijm Records.
Oh right, listen and indulge!
